Moonlight Walk to take place at Argyle

Argyle is an area of St Vincent and the Grenadines which is rich in history and in the heritage of our peoples. Important archaeological finds have been made there and the Argyle petro glyphs are well known and have been visited by numerous people. Many of us can recollect going to Argyle for various picnics, cooks, blockos or walks at some point in years past.

National Treasures of St Vincent and the Grenadines as part of its commitment to preserving and promoting our cultural heritage aims to highlight Argyle by writing a piece on the activities that have taken place there and by organising a moonlight walk around Argyle.

Friday, 10th February is the next full moon and on Saturday, 11th February; National Treasures is asking people to join them for a Moonlight Walk. Everyone will assemble at 5 p.m. at the meeting place which is up the hill on the road at the Stubbs end at the top of the airport runway- the flat area on the right. Cars can be parked there and the walk will set off from that point.

The route will be from the meeting point, which was part of what was known locally as ‘Crazy Camel’ Hill, back out to Mount Coke, north along the Windward Highway towards Argyle School; turning right onto the original Argyle road, heading south along coast, past Rawacou Resort then back to the starting point.

National Treasures hopes that some persons on the walk will share stories of the area or recount some experiences they have heard about. Argyle in one of those places which was renowned for ‘sightings’ of various creatures such as the Jah Bless and the Rounce; however given that the area is so well lit and more populated these days, such ‘sightings’ seem to have ceased.

Tee shirts for the walk will be available and are included in the cost of registration. Registration for the walk has started and there are forms at various companies in Kingstown and also with any member of the Board of National Treasures of SVG. FLOW has kindly assisted National Treasures with the Moonlight Walk in which it is hoped many people will participate and bring along their families.

Argyle has given us many memories to treasure and will to give us new ones to treasure in this next phase of the history of Argyle.
